How to make Granola

Here's a recipe that was passed down to me from my Grandfather. He used to eat Granola for Breakfast and as a healthy snack during the day. Making Granola reminds me of him.

Ingredients:
Rolled Oats            3 cups

Sunflower Seeds            2 cups

Pumpkin Seeds            2 cups

Almonds            1.5 cups

Walnuts            1 cup

Cashews            1 cup

Sesame Seeds            1/3 cup

Raisins/Sultana’s            1 cup

Coconut            .5 cup

Honey            .5 cup

Hot Water            1 cup

Vegetable oil            2 table spoons

Cinnamon            4 tea spoons

*Non-Essential ingredients like seeds, nuts etc. can be omitted or substituted. You could also try different types of honey, or substitute with golden syrup depending on taste.

Method:

1.       Pre-heat oven to 160C (fan forced) or 180C (standard)

2.       Loosely crush Walnuts & Cashews

3.       Combine all dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl.

4.       Mix thoroughly

5.       Mix in vegetable oil

6.       Dilute Honey in Hot Water and add to dry ingredients, mixing thoroughly until the oats have absorbed the moisture. You may need to add more water to get the right consistency.

7.       Mix in the Cinnamon, adding more to taste.

8.       Spread the mixture thinly onto a tray lined with baking paper.

9.       Bake for 15 minutes. Remove from oven, break up the mixture and bake for a further 15 minutes or until brown.

10.   Remove from oven to allow Granola to cool and any remaining moisture to evaporate. You can also let it cool in the oven with the door open.

11.   Enjoy!
